Max Steel Crossbow Commando Action Shots!

I stumbled upon this Max Steel NIB before stopping at Fort McAllister in Savannah, Georgia!

He looked cool enough, so I took some shots of him there!

This is the 2001 Mattel Crossbow Commando Max Steel action figure. He has the non-superposeable body and was one of the more budget friendly figures of that year. Although this was not one of the figures I bought as a child, I loved the Max Steel line in the early 2000's where he was a cyborg type secret agent!

  1. Amazing! Its hard to believe MAx Steel is twenty years old! I wish the 12inch action figure line was still around. Max Steel was the Six Million Dollarman and Big Jim all rolled into one!

    1. Max Steel was one of Mattel's most innovative toys. He possessed the play value of G.I.Joe, had his own creative universe of characters, and awed kids with his large striking physique. Whether he be agent, commando, ninja, or sportsman, original Max Steel figures always had a lot to offer!

  2. I would like to see more pics showcasing Max Steel and villains and if you have turbo car or jet.

    1. I do not have many of the bigger vehicles, but I do have a few of his villains. I myself would actually like to meet someone who is fluent in the releases of Max Steel south of the border. There were all kinds of crazy Max's and villains released in Mexico and South America after the original line died in the states. Many awesome eBay Max Steel listings still show up from Venezuela.

    2. The one thing I had was the Max Steel headquarters which featured a secret mountainside for climbing much like G.I.Joes Mike Powers AtomicMan secret mountain outpost.

  3. I was convention years ago and they explained the mountain attack Max Steel with bending arm that revealed bionic they just didn't have the technology back in the 70s. And psycho is much like Maskatron with removable mask to reveal a evil cyborg underneath. I wonder if Vitriol clear green cyborg arms were taken after neo henshin cyborg.

    1. Psycho and Vitriol were fun, but my favorite Max Steel villain was actually the snake guy, Bio-Constrictor. I have always liked creature-people characters, and Bio-Constrictor also moved better than the other villains.

If you like Max Steel, you might also like many of the original 1/6 Lanard Ultra Corp figures. Very nice, and super underappreciated today. Lanard also made a spin-off line called the K-9 Corps, a K-Mart exclusive of dog soldiers. I have a few of them as well.

    2. Yea I had all the K9 Corps! It was so much! Lanard does surprise! They released the Alien collection which a cool. I don't know if there is a future for 12"inch action figures with gear and vehicles like Max Steel. Nowadays its like Leatherface and other Horror type figures that hog the toy aisle. Not a real fan of it.

    3. Yea I really like Bio constrictor myself. He even rattled like snake! Hey you might have better luck at this. If you can find the Max Steel NTek command center for sale I would really like to own it again.

  4. it would be fun to read a blog on the difference between American and Japanese cyborg 12 inch action figures.

    1. It would definitely be a great read. I have a few cyborg type figures. Maybe I'll do an article or just some pics on it one day. I know there are already a few photos on the web with Atomic Man and his Japanese Henshin cousins.

It is not super cheap, but you can currently piece together your own custom 1/6 cyborg Joe on Cotswold if you are interested. Just buy the cyber body, vintage style head, clothing, some boots, and you have a completely original and new Cyborg Joe.

    2. I need new batteries for my neo henshin cyborg figures and Max Steel Vitriol figure. Are there only one type of button cell battery? What type of battery do I need?

      Delete
    3. Neo Henshin Cyborgs take two L1154 type batteries.

Vitriol from Max Steel takes a similar watch battery, but I do not remember the specific type. If you have one with old batteries, take them out and compare sizes at Wal-Mart.

  5. If you want ambience try playing music soundtracks as your theme song for cyborg 12 inch action figures. A great cd is for the remake of the day the earth stood still by Tyler bates. Its full of sci fi action. Another album the 80s soundtrack for transformers. The Matrix soundtracks. The anime soundtrack for Wicked City. It surely liven things to cyborg action figures with music.

    1. I listen to all types of music when I am crafting part of a toy, whether that be sewing or rooting a head. It just depends on my mood. :)

    2. Sometimes dark synthetic goth electronic music is soothing. I find the positive romantic japanese theme music really awesome. I bought a red sweater and blue jeans for a 12 inch special forces figure which looks just like Max Steel but with a hair cut. And with the outfit he is a dead ringer for the bionicman. I also bought

    3. I also bought a star brigade astronaut suit. And I went for Astronaut barbie to have her like the bionic woman:)

  6. I bought modern day Action Man Laser Force and Jet pilot and laser light kit from Belgium. The over seas Action Man ran for me 60 dollars each and I see them go for 100 dollars each! Not cheap. I bought a modern special forces 12 inch figure with a great sculpt for under 15 dollars. I use him in my bionic transport repair station. The Steve Austin 13 inch figure is very expensive so I had to go the cheaper route.

  7. I would like to see you do more pictures showcasing henshin cyborg and Max Steel if you will. It will be great fun to see the two unite.

  8. oh yea I think there was or was going to be a stealth Max Steel with a totally clear plastic figure body which would of made it like a neo henshin cyborg.
